Amanda Irwin
Savvy communications consultant
Amanda Irwin is a media veteran and communications leader with expertise in writing, editing, multimedia storytelling and strategic marketing in media environments in the United States and China. She was an advisor to a university president and organized the university's first scholarly conference on cannabis research in Connecticut. Amanda spent 15 years in journalism chronicling major news events and the religion beat, with stories featured on NPR, the Washington Post and other major dailies. In 2011, she founded one of five bureaus of the national Religion News Service. She has a journalism degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and master’s degree in Strategic Communication. She is the Director of Marketing and Communications at Boys & Girls Homes of NC. She serves on the Board of Directors at the Sister Cities of Wilmington and as a member of Wilmington Lions Club. Previously, she taught Global Journalism at Wuhan University, a top-ten university in China. She is the President and Co-Founder of DISC Services & Consulting, LLC. Amanda likes exploring the world with her husband and children.
Dr. Darrell Irwin
Problem-solver & Researcher
Dr. Darrell D. Irwin, Co-Founder & Director of Research and Development, puts policy needs into action. He is a Research Professor at the University of Connecticut, working remotely on projects in the international development and socio-economic public/private sectors. Prior to UConn, he was a Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Distinguished Professor at Central China Normal University in Wuhan, China, the first American-born social science Dean in China Dr. Irwin was entrusted with the responsibility and resources to internationalize Central China Normal University, a leading university in China. He gave invited lectures at top Chinese universities and to the international diplomatic corps. Prior to that, he was a Professor at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. His book Case Studies of the Use of Drug Testing in Corporations: Deviance in Large Organizations and scholarly articles report on socio-economic subjects. Dr. Irwin is fluent in Spanish and proficient in Mandarin, Serbo-Croatian, and French.
He owned a SME enterprise that was sold after 6 years of successful operation.
